Old Florida fly reels are available in 3 arbor sizes:

  • Standard
  • Large
  • Super

Choosing an Old Florida Reel
Large Arbor, which is slightly larger than its Standard Arbor counterpart, the Large Arbor fishing reels offer lower start-up inertia, faster line retrieval, ample backing capacity, and elegant beauty. These fly fishing reels are available in models that serve 6-weight to 13-weight outfits. Super Arbor, which is two sizes larger than its Standard Arbor counterpart, offer near-zero start-up inertia on the drag, fastest line retrieval, ample backing capacity, and racy looks. These fishing reels are available from 6 weights to 11 weights. Fresh Water reels, which are the old Florida 234 and 456, were designed as an affordable machined trout reel. These lightweight large arbor reels sport an anti-backlash brake system, an incoming and outgoing click, and ease of spool change, combine beauty, and affordability in a black anodized finish. Fly fishing tackle has got a rising demand, as these old Florida equipments stand second to none in their standards.

Interchangeability
All Old Florida fly fishing reels feature full interchangeability with Large Arbor, Stand Arbor, and Super Arbor spools on the same housings, which means that one fishing reel with two spools in different arbors can cover more than 6 line weights. When choosing an arbor size, one has to keep in mind that in order to benefit from super and large arbor characteristics one needs to increase the fishing reel size (outside diameter) compared to a standard arbor. If one does not increase the reel size, all he or she is doing is sacrificing backing capacity. Rods and lures for fly fishing just got better with their state of the art designs and materials used.
