No matter how wonderful your fly rods are, they're nothing but expensive sticks without the appropriate fly reels. Along with the rod, line and a few flies to entice the fish, fly fishing reels complete the basic fly fishing equipment set; everything else, from leaders to creels to waders, however useful or handy, is just stage dressing. Once you've picked out the ideal reel, it's time to take stock of the remainder of your fishing situation. Good fly fishing rods are a must, of course, and you'll have to acquire an excellent fishing line to make your reel work just right. Then, of course, you'll need to put together a decent set of flies -- whether you do that by hand, tying your own flies, or by picking them up from retailers.
